Quality Measure Results Available
WCHQ has published updated quality measure results for the timeframe of 7/1/23 – 6/30/24. We are currently analyzing the data; below are some trends we are already noting:
Colorectal Cancer Screening Rates Increase even as Population Grows
- Colorectal cancer screening improved to 76% statewide, adding 16,000 more screened patients.
- This improvement happened even with an expanded eligible population, as screenings now include patients aged 45 and older.
Depression Screening Reaches All-Time High
- Screening for Clinical Depression reached an all-time statewide high of 85%, with an additional 25,000 patients screened for depression.
Ischemic Vascular Disease: Blood Pressure Control Measure Change
- The WCHQ measures was modified to align with guidelines from the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association. Controlled blood pressure for patients with ischemic vascular disease is now defined as 130/80 (previously 140/90).
- Due to the measure change, 32,346 patients previously identified as in control are now uncontrolled. WCHQ is actively pursuing statewide partnerships to support members and improve blood pressure control for these patients.

Asthma Initiative
WCHQ is working to improve asthma outcomes in six Wisconsin counties: Milwaukee, Kenosha, Racine, Rock, Brown, and Menominee. This initiative leverages data-driven strategies to address disparities, enhance care coordination, and implement effective asthma management practices.
Why Participate?
- Milwaukee County: Address the highest asthma prevalence rates in the state.
- Racine County: Improve care coordination where only 40% of patients have asthma action plans.
- Brown County: Reduce indoor air quality-related asthma cases with environmental assessments.
- Rock County: Build on the success of in-home education programs that boost medication compliance.
- Kenosha County: Expand in-home visits to reduce emergency room visits.
- Menominee County: Engage underserved populations in personalized asthma care strategies.
Be part of this impactful work to improve asthma care and health equity across Wisconsin. For more information or to join, contact Jen Koberstein at Jkoberstein@wchq.org
Obesity Maps: A Closer Look at Wisconsin Communities
WCHQ’s updated obesity maps provide a detailed view of how obesity impacts communities across Wisconsin, highlighting local disparities and areas for focused intervention. As of 2023, the obesity prevalence rate in Wisconsin adults is up to 47.7%, compared to 41.2% in 2016.
In addition to the maps, our obesity toolkits offer practical resources for health systems, employers, and policymakers to develop strategies that improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs. These tools are designed to drive actionable change and support community health efforts.
