UW Health Clinic Receives WCHQ Top Quality Honors
Recognized for high performance for colorectal cancer screening rate
The Wisconsin Collaborative for Healthcare Quality (WCHQ) recognized UW Health’s internal medicine clinic located at 20 S. Park Street, fifth floor, as the top performer in the state based on their rate of colorectal cancer screenings at a virtual event held July 28.
Lea Veltum, RN, internal medicine clinic manager at 20 S. Park Street, accepted the award on behalf of UW Health, which was presented by Gabrielle Rude, Ph.D., director of practice transformation and incoming WCHQ president.
WCHQ annually honors a select number of member organizations for superior clinical performance and patient outcomes.
UW Health’s S. Park Street Clinic (fifth floor) ranked first among 300 WCHQ-member medical clinics on their scores related to screening patients for colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer almost always develops from precancerous polyps, which are abnormal growths in the colon. Screening tests can find these polyps so they can be removed before they turn into cancer.
“The UW Clinic on S. Park Street is doing an outstanding job of screening their patients for one of the most preventable cancers. It takes perseverance and hard work to hard wire processes in place to ensure patients are screened,” according to WCHQ President/CEO Chris Queram. “UW Health is not only able to improve the quality of care they provide their patients, but by working with WCHQ and collaborating with other medical professionals across the state, they are improving the quality of care in Wisconsin.”
Queram noted that Wisconsin has one of the highest colorectal cancer screening rates in the country.
WCHQ is dedicated to helping health care professionals improve the quality and affordability of health care through collaboration, sharing best practices, and publicly reporting information that health care organizations can use to benchmark and compare their performance. WCHQ’s membership includes Wisconsin’s integrated health systems, hospitals, medical and dental clinics and independent physician groups. Visit WCHQ.org for more information.
